Lenten Icon Workshop: March 4-9, 2019

Instructor:

Fr. Bo Nahachewsky

What will we be writing / painting?

We will all be working on a cropped icon of Our Lord Cricified.  Those with iconographic experience may choose to paint the non-cropped version, or if they already did a workshop with Fr. Bo of this particular icon, they may work with Fr. Bo to pick another suitable icon.

What will we be painting with?

Fr. Bo uses traditional Egg Tempra paint, which is an emulsion of egg yolk, water and alcohol.  This is mixed with pigments, which are finely ground minerals and other substances.  The halos are gilded with 24 karat gold.

Fr. Bo does do most of the process using ancient techniques, but is not opposed to using a few modern methods if they help the participants finish on time and get better results

Who is this for?

This is a retreat for adults who are able and willing to pray and paint for a full week of evenings and all day Saturday.  Missing sessions will be difficult to catch up on… but… talk to Fr. Bo if you must miss a little but still want to participate.

Although this program is put on by a Ukrainian Catholic Priest, at a Ukrainian Catholic Parish, this program is for anyone who wishes to participate from any Christian Church tradition.

How many people can participate?

In order to keep the quality of the retreat there will be a maximum of 16 participants.  And to make this retreat possible we need at least 6.  If you are interested you should register early to reserve your spot.

When will this take place?

This retreat takes place from 6-9 pm each weeknight, and all day Saturday 9am-9pm.

Where will this take place?

This Icon writing retreat will take place at Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God Parish on the west side of Edmonton, AB.  The address is 15608 -104 Avenue, NW.
